Drone bee photo8/9/2023 ![]() Letting them stay would be an unnecessary drain on the colony’s winter resources. Towards the end of summer, from July to August, when preparing for wintering, the female workers will attack them and chase them from the hive, to die outside of cold and starvation. As not all drones mate with the queen, lots of them manage to live longer. Any drone who successfully mates will not return to his hive, but will die as his penis and connected abdominal tissues will be ripped from his body during mating.Ģ. Yet, only a small number of drones manages to perform this function. He’ll go away from his hive, and in flight, will mate with other queen (not one from his hive). After reaching maturity, a drone can immediately mate with a queen. A very short one, for another 1 or 2 days. How long does a drone live?įrom the day 12, when a drone reaches sexual maturity, a drone’s life can be:ġ. If they don’t mate, they can live till autumn. It will come back and feed food from the hive.Īfter the mating flight with the queen they die. During these flights a drone will NOT gather nectar to feed himself. When they are 8 days old, they will get out of the hive, to take orientation flights, usually between 11.00 and 17.00. After the day 4 they will feed themselves from the honey and beebread of the hive. While considered adults after the day 24, for the first 3 days they are not able to feed themselves. Yet it takes a drone 24 days to become adult, 21 days to a worker and only 16 to a queen. It can be said that a drone develops slower than the other bees, though its organism is not more complex than of a worker. This system of reproduction is known as parthenogenesis. It means that the drone has no father but does have a grandfather, as his mother the queen was from a fertilized egg. The drone comes from an unfertilized egg and he has half the chromosomes of a worker bee, 16 rather than 32. It is fed with a mixture of honey and pollen. In this period it is fed with royal jelly They are born only to inseminate the queen. As ugly as it sounds, the truth is that males are here only reproduction instruments. This doesn’t mean that they live along the Amazon river, but that female are just like the legendary Amazons, warriors and rulers. The ones that ensure the perpetuation of honey bee species.Ī honey bee colony is an Amazonian society. The answer to ‘what is a drone bee’ is quite simple: male bees. What is mad honey? Is it dangerous? Where can I find it?. ![]()

Tiny tim saying8/9/2023 ![]() The rule-shattering era of the late 1960s was essential to his rise-could it have happened at any other time? Tiny Tim is unimaginable without the surrounding world of "Happenings" and flower-children dancing through the streets of Haight-Ashbury. My soul is crying for help." He is referred to as "kind" and "vulnerable," but some of the stories told here-of a sexual phone call with a 14-year-old girl, and his first conversation with his third and final wife (before they met, he asked her bluntly over the phone: "Are you attractive? Are you slim?" and then looked disappointed when they met in person) tells another story, one not really explored. One journal entry: "I am the biggest star in the country. Success, when it came, was gratifying to the ego part of him, and yet didn't seem to make a difference in how he felt about life. When he blew kisses to the audience, the blown kisses seem affected, as though he were a bored monarch. Tiny Tim created a persona, and then lived it 24/7: he wore big boxy blazers, wide ties, and would shuffle onstage carrying a small bag in one hand, ukulele under his arm. (Trav SD., author of No Applause, Just Throw Money: The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous, calls Tiny Tim "the Holy Saint of the neo-vaudeville movement"). He was a throwback to vaudeville, to the 19th-century English music hall. ![]() How did he develop his style? It was a real "act," in the old-fashioned sense of the term. Justin Martell, who wrote the 2016 biography, Eternal Troubadour: The Improbable Life Of Tiny Tim, is the main tour guide of the documentary, walking us through each event: his troubled childhood, his love of Bing Crosby, his start as a street performer, and his novelty-act appeal to the burgeoning coffee club folk-house scene in Greenwich Village. His ambition was titanic and visionary: "I will be a star," he declared to his journal. ![]() The film is peppered with excerpts from Tiny Tim's occasionally tormented journal (voiced sensitively by "Weird Al" Yankovic), where the child of a Russian-Jewish father and a Lebanese-Christian mother-who threw him out of the house as a teenager-worries obsessively about sin, about Jesus, about Satan, and about his goals for himself. Pennebaker, all of whom reminisce about the performer's meteoric rise (and equally meteoric fall). Von Sydow has gathered together a host of interview subjects, from family members to collaborators, to filmmakers like Jonas Mekas and D.A. How did a guy with a ukulele, a falsetto voice, and a jolly artificial 19th-century-music-hall persona pull that off? The documentary makes a valiant (and not entirely successful) stab at contextualizing Tiny Tim, attempting to explain why he rose to such stratospheric heights, moving from the periphery straight into the heart of the mainstream, where he not only sold out Royal Albert Hall, but performed for 600,000 people at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970. ![]()

![]() ![]() Protease plays a part in regulating metabolic function, and it allows for the vitamins and minerals we ingest to work properly. What does protease do? Everything! These enzymes allow for the proper function of our digestive and immune systems, kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, and bloodstream. These three proteases attack different peptide linkages to allow for the generation of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. The digestive tract produces three different forms of protease in our digestive tracts: trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen and procarboxypeptidase. Proteases are produced by the pancreas, and they are also found in some fruits, bacteria and other microbes. When these protease enzymes aren’t present in the body to break down protein molecules, the intestinal lining would not be able to digest them, which can lead to some serious health issues. Then enzymes on the surface and inside of intestinal cells break the pieces down even further, so they become amino acids that are ready for use throughout the body. The pancreas releases protease enzymes (primarily trypsin), and in the intestines, they break protein chains apart into smaller pieces. The process of digesting proteins starts in the stomach, where hydrochloric acid unfolds the proteins and the enzyme pepsin begins to disassemble them. Proteins start as a tough, complex, folded structure, and they can only be broken down or disassembled with protease enzymes. We need a steady supply of amino acids for proper growth and repair. ![]() This process is called proteolysis, and it turns protein molecules into shorter fragments, called peptides, and eventually into their components, called amino acids. A protease is an enzyme that breaks the long, chainlike molecules of proteins so they can be digested. Proteases have been called biology’s version of Swiss army knives, able to cut long sequences of proteins into fragments. According to a scientific review published in the Biochemical Journal, “although the predominant use of proteases has been in treating cardiovascular disease, they are also emerging as useful agents in the treatment of sepsis, digestive disorders, inflammation, cystic fibrosis, retinal disorders, psoriasis and other diseases.” ( 1)īut what exactly does protease do, and why are proteases so essential for our overall health? These are complex enzymes and researchers are still learning about their role in the human body, but hopefully I can help you to understand their importance. What are proteases? They’re enzymes that allow for the breakdown of proteins in the body.īecause of this, proteolytic enzymes are at the cutting edge of biological research, and they have become a major focus for the pharmaceutical industry. We are able to see, think and breathe because of protease. They are required for literally every single chemical action that takes place in our bodies - from digestion to immune function and blood flow. Maybe we don’t give enzymes enough credit. ![]()

Types of empathic listening8/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Hearing is a physiological capacity that, if it does not show defects, allows us to predispose ourselves to listen. ![]() But, really.Īs is well known, hearing and listening are not the same. ![]() With his way of acting, he taught us that the best way to motivate a person is to listen to them. But it was not of great speeches, nor of grandiloquent words that sought to move the group. He was a great motivator, we all thought. Recently, together with several former colleagues, we remembered one of whom we all agreed to consider the best bosses we had had in our professional career. And one of the most necessary in any area of our life. Knowing how to listen is not only an attitude, it is also an aptitude, a skill. A question is asked not necessarily for the answer, but to verify and thus imply that we are listening and we want to understand well what is shared with us. It is important to verify what we understand and if what we understand is what we want to communicate. How many times has it happened to us that we appreciate what they tell us but do not interpret or make sure of the message they want to give us. Then the woman said, “I can finally have a coffee!“ Already in one of them, he needed gasoline and decided to stop. I remember the example of someone who wanted to stop at a gas station for coffee, and every time they were about to pass by one, she would say to her husband, who was driving, “ Don’t you want to put gas in the car?” Listening is more than just appreciating a message given. I appreciated, in one way or another, what was said but lost connection with who was saying it and, possibly, what they were communicating. I was comfortable in one situation or another and suddenly I was transported to what they were talking about and without realizing it I was no longer present in the conversation itself but immersed in what it was described. It has happened to me on occasions that I have been listening to someone who inspired me or told me about a personal situation. Have you ever felt uncomfortable listening to something and have you realized that the focus of attention was not on what you were listening to, but rather on how it made you feel? Therefore, appreciative listening is practised when listening to our favourite music, a recorded meditation or a recited speech. We don’t actually pay attention.Īppreciative listening is not necessarily about communicating with others, but rather about the relationship with ourselves and what we need to do to nourish the mind. What is appreciative listening?Īppreciative listening is one through which we listen without paying attention, in a relaxed way, seeking pleasure or inspiration. In this article, we introduce the concept of appreciative listening and explain why it is important. ![]()

Javascript image resize library8/9/2023 ![]() then(b64 => document.querySelector('img').src = b64) Then you can use this code to generate a simple image: //write this inside of your javascript file Install the library itself: npm install -save merge-images Or you can find this library helpful for personal use, for example, combining a few different images to generate a collage. For example, you can generate an NFT Collection where you can merge all components to have a complete set of variations. It’s a valuable library that can help with several tasks. You can also create parameters like positioning, opacity, and several more. It's a wrapper around the Canvas API, abstracting its low-level functions, which makes this specific task a lot easier. Merge Images abstracts all repetitive tasks into simple function calls. ![]() Working with the canvas can be slightly tedious, especially when you need the canvas context to do relatively simple things like merging a few images. This library can be installed with the following command: npm install cropperjsĬonst image = document.getElementById('image') Ĭheck out the Cropper.js demo, click on any property that you want to apply to your image and see the result instantly.įor an in-depth guide on how to add image cropping to your React app, check out our guide on using react-image-crop. It will be more efficient because it requires almost nothing, doesn’t have any useless features, and is very optimized for cropping! Example You can use its flexible API to create a custom image cropping UI in your web app allowing your users to adjust photos to the correct size and aspect ratio. Cropper.js is the right choice for cropping without any extra features. You can use it to crop your images in all possible ways, change aspect ratio, rotate, zoom and work with canvas data. This is how you would resize an image using sharp: const sharp = require('sharp') Ĭropper.js is another popular JavaScript library for image manipulation. You can install this library by using the command below: npm install sharp So again, if you would like to use it for resizing several large images, then it’s the best choice for you - you’ll do it in the fastest and most efficient way. I used it to resize a whole NFT Collection with a size of over 80Gb, which after compression came out at circa 10Gb. Sharp is taking full advantage of multiple CPU cores and L1/L2/元 cache, allowing you to resize and compress your images much more quickly. Instead, ordinary HTML and vanilla JavaScript will be more beneficial. If, on the other hand, you only want to resize a single small image, then you probably shouldn’t use it. Sharp is helpful only if you want to resize a giant file or a variety of them. The typical use case for this high-speed Node.js module is to convert large images in standard formats to smaller, web-friendly images. Sharp is a high-performance Node.js image processing library to resize different image formats such as JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, SVG, and TIFF. To finish up, we wandered into the realm of testing images, since no image manipulation application is complete without a reliable way to test results. We have included libraries for every significant image manipulation task, from simple, low-level operations such as filters, brightness, and saturation to single-purpose libraries for cropping or image composition. ![]() Image Manipulation Libraries (IML) are used to perform various manipulation functions on images: you can increase the brightness of an image, add saturation or filters, crop and resize, and more valuable features that will help you to do almost everything and turn your web browser into an Adobe Lightroom! ![]()

Best car wax 20228/9/2023 ![]() Lighter-coloured vehicles may respond better to synthetic waxes, darker ones will look better with a natural wax finish.įirst off, you need to wash the car. Cars that have lost their showroom shine will benefit most from a polishing and waxing session. Do different cars need different waxes?Ī new car should require less waxing than an old one, and it would generally be better to use a sealant than a wax on a showroom-fresh machine. These ingredients mean that ‘sealants’, as synthetic waxes are known, tend to last longer than a natural wax. Typically available in liquid form, these contain man-made polymers or resins rather than the more natural ingredients of a conventional wax. It’s perfect for automotive uses as it’s virtually insoluble in water (meaning it doesn’t easily wash away), has a high melting point (so shouldn’t turn runny in sunlight) and provides a durable and glossy finish. The most popular wax for use in the automotive industry is carnauba, which comes from the leaves of the palm Copernicia prunifera, native to and grown only in north-eastern Brazil.
